A brief survey of the regions Saxony and Flanders Introduction The purpose of this note is to briefly summarise the semicon ecosystems in Saxony (BRD) and Flanders (Be) in comparison with Gelderland. The main discriminators between the three regions as as follows. Saxony has a relatively large large frontend production activity with 3 large fabs and 3 smaller fabs. For Flanders there is the very large RTO on fundamental chip technology IMEC, claiming a unique position as well as a relatively large design community. Gelderland’s strong point is the relatively large equipment community. In the section below the characterisation in numbers is given for the three regions.
