"IFFR and Cinerama have shared a strong and lasting bond for decades. More than just a venue, Cinerama has been a cultural home for the festival and a vital meeting place for audiences in Rotterdam. Each year during IFFR, Cinerama becomes a unique space where local and international audiences come together—turning the cinema into a place of exchange, discovery, and dialogue. It’s a moment when the city opens up to the world, and the world meets Rotterdam through film. It is regrettable that only now—at such a critical moment—we are reminded of the irreplaceable role cinemas like Cinerama play. Without it, Rotterdam would lose more than a cinema—it would lose a vital part of its cultural and social fabric. We urge the council to act now—to protect Cinerama as a cultural cornerstone of this city, not just for IFFR, but for all communities who call Rotterdam home."
