Summary project Within the period of one year we realized 30 houses for 52 people from the Ukraine and for 34 people from the Cittaslow society Midden-Delfland. The buildings are completely replaceable (re-usable on another premise). The buildings meet the standards of normal houses in the Netherlands. The housing is free of charge for the people from the Ukraine (refugees). The local government, the local housing company and the national government worked together to realize this. The surroundings/environment is designed in negotiation with the people in the neighborhood. Goal project Offer high quality housing to people from the Ukraine. Combining this with housing of local residents so the integration will increase.

Result project

The housing is realized. 52 people from Ukraine live at the location. We have also built homes for young people (up to 28 years old) and residents with a special housing problem. For the realization of the public space (pavement, trees et cetera) we listened to the people wo already lived nearby. They could choose the sort of trees, the position of the parking places and other things. We have planted local plants. Also an insect hotel.

Finance (costs and benefits) The complete project costs approximately €15 million. The cost is divided over the local housing company, the local government and the national government. The company owns the houses and has the value of that property. They receive payment form the 34 local inhabitants. The national government pays them the rent for the 52 Ukrainian people. The local government has promised to standby when necessarily when the local housing company

needs this in this project. When the houses can be exploited for 22 years than the breakeven point will be reached. The houses can be dismantled and therefore moved to another location.

Staff (staff involved and use of time) Most of the workload to make this possible has been done by three people. The each spend 4 months on the project. So a year in total. Person 1: This is an employee from the local housing company. He made their business case and bought the houses. Person 2: This is an employee from the local government (Midden-Delfland). She convinced the authorities, searched for possible subsidies and arranged all the permissions to build the houses. Person 3: This also is an employee from the local government (Midden-Delfland). He informed the neighborhood, made agreements about the fitting of this project in the environment, made sure that sustainable solutions and materials were practices/used. At this moment the most work is done by a fourth person who is responsible for making sure that the inhabitants, especially the Ukrainian inhabitants, feel at home and integrate in the local society (language, children's education, medical support if necessary, social integration, etc.).
