LIS B03 Bericht uit Kalisz, maart 2022.pdf

Betreft: bericht namens de burgemeester van Kalisz, naar aanleiding van telefoongesprek burgemeester Rehwinkel en vertegenwoordiger gemeente Kalisz. 23 maart 2022 Dear Mr Mayor, on behalf of Mr Kinastowski I'd like to thank you for the today's meeting and conversation. It was a pleasure to talk to you! The Ukrainian city Kamianets Podilski has got about the same amount of inhabitatnts like Kalisz 100.000. As the war is mostly taking place in the western part of the country, Kamianets is more or less "safe", however you can also there hear the flying rockets and there are severals alarms every day, so the people have to hide in the shelters and basements. And because of the safety till now about 20.000 people from eastern cities has come to Kamianets, what is a huge challenge for the city! Among them are many children. So if you'd like to provide something, milk powder or other food with long shelf life and baby wipes and different diapers are always a good idea. Also medical products, like analgesics, antiseptics, first aid kits, medical dressings, painkillers, antiinflammatory drugs are very necessary. To let you know: they not only provide needed things for the regugees, but also send many things to the fighting soldiers in Kiyv, Charkow, Cherson. So diesel and gasoline are also very welcome to bring the items to the soldiers.

So if you could provide hand barrows or protective boots, it would be great and help in the war. Till now we have sent 3 lorries to the polish-ukrainian border, where drivers from Kamianets picked up the cargo. We have transported goods that were collected by our citizens but also that was brought by our german twin city Hamm or the french city Hautmont. We could do this in the same way with you, if you wish. And as for the City Days, the traditional festival of our city always takes place in June. We always invite our international friends for some days; this year this will be from 9th to the 12th June (Thursday till Sunday). Official invitations will be prepared soon. We would be happy to welcome aour old-new dutch friends in Kalisz!
