06 53374537 Y.van.groenigen@amsterdam.nl Your letter to the City Council regarding tourists in Amsterdam
Dear Sir, Thank you for your letter, which I have received in good order on August 13 2020. My apologies for answering you this late. You are questioning the behavior of tourists partying in Amsterdam, as you are experiencing nuisance from them. You specifically mention tourists that visit coffee shop Siberië, above which you are living. Tourism has been growing over the last couple of years. Quite a few tourists are attracted by the number of coffee shops we have in Amsterdam. I am currently looking into ways of cutting back the growth of the cannabis market in Amsterdam to make it more manageable. In a greater perspective programs as ‘Stad in Balans’ and ‘Aanpak Binnenstad’ are addressing the problems of tourism in the city. Therefore, the city of Amsterdam is working very hard to turn it back into a city for its residents. This topic will be discussed in the City Council on January 28 2021. Whenever you do experience nuisance of a coffee shop, I would recommend you to always call the police (0900-8844), and also submit your complaint at telephone number 14020 or at https://www.amsterdam.nl/wonen-leefomgeving/melding-openbare-ruimte-en-overlast/ right away. Coffee shops are not allowed to cause nuisance on the grounds of the criteria for the tolerated sale of soft drugs. Detection and enforcement of the rules can take place after notifications and complaints.
I hope to have informed you sufficiently. Yours sincerely,
Femke Halsema mayor of Amsterdam Een routebeschrijving vindt u op www.amsterdam.nl.
